It was recently reported that distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks are being offered as a service for as little as $5. This interesting tidbit gave birth to a unique and timely media opportunity for Voxus security client WatchGuard Technologies.
Our team saw the headlines about the “$5 DDoS” and thought it might be interesting to do some digging to find out more about the Crimeware-as-a-Service market. WatchGuard’s threat analyst took a tour of the dark web and assembled a catalog of the costs associated with specific cyber attacks being offered as a service.
We approached SC Magazine last month to see if they’d be interested in publishing new data on this intriguing underground market in the form of a “hacking menu” – and they bit (so to speak). For the resulting article, check out “Snack attack: A crimeware-as-a-service menu for wannabe hackers.”
The moral of the story? The ability to offer data to media is invaluable. And developing creative angles or themes to tie everything together FOR the journalist will go a long way.
